Accounting assistants or bookkeeping assistants do tedious and complex tasks in managing a business’s finances. They support the accounting department by doing clerical tasks such as handling and recording transactions, preparing budgets and reports, fielding communications with clients and others, validation, filing, and other related duties, as assigned.

Job Brief

Accounting assistant candidates must be excellent multi-taskers with excellent time management, analytical, and organizational skills. They must have excellent knowledge of accounting principles, software (Microsoft Excel and Quickbooks), and computers. Likewise, they must be reliable, efficient, and organized. Accounting assistants report to the department manager or employer.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support the accounting department
  • Assist with auditing, data entry, handling, and recording of transactions
  • Maintain a database, ensure records are complete and up-to-date
  • Update ledgers
  • Help with audits and data validation
  • Prepare budgets, deposits, and financial reports
  • Do basic office tasks such as filing, answering of calls, and handling of e-mails
  • Manage transactions, issue checks, and update records
  • Resolve discrepancies
Job Qualifications
  • With certification in Accounting or substantial experience in the field
  • Proficient with computers and bookkeeping software
  • Strong typing skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent time management, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of basic accounting procedures and principles
